Body cleansing for weight loss and beauty. Part 1. The reason we want to be clean from the inside.

Hi there! It's me Svetlana! Today I would like to start a new conversation: the importance of the body cleansing. Some may not find this subject too appetizing, but if you stay with me till the end and try it, you may like the results more than you imagine.Well, having said that, let me get started.

Human body is designed to cleanse itself from within. However, modern diet, lack of physical activity, as well as stresses and bad ecology bring more toxic products into the body than out body is capable of eliminating. Accumulating in organs and tissues, the toxic waste slows metabolism, increases chances of developing chronic diseases, facilitate aging processes. Toxins rob our bodies of necessary nutrients which are supposed to give us young and healthy look.
There is no question in my mind that cellulite is one of the direct consequences of toxin accumulation. Modern diet, filled with conservants and trans fats, pesticides and hormones, contains so much “trash”! It would be really great if we could learn how to eat only foods that we feel safe to put on as a face mask. Why making an all-natural, the best and the most beneficial face mask we chose the freshest and the purest ingredients, and then put junk inside the body? Natural ingredients in a face mask make our skin young and healthy outside, but we rarely care what happens inside when we devour a huge slice of pepperoni pizza. It would never cross anybody’s mind to heat up a ready-to-eat soup in a microwave and smother it all over the face, yet we eat it for lunch. So, the body gets loaded with poisons and chemicals, suffers, chokes, and ages from inside.

Specialists in naturopathic medicine (medicine without drugs and unnatural ingredients) and now many doctors share belief that a body of a modern person needs a good cleansing once in a while.

Deep colonic cleansing is the main stem of any anti-cellulite program. Getting rid of all the toxins our colon accumulated aver years will give our bodies a “jump-start” by increasing metabolic processes, including problem areas affected by cellulite. In addition to this internal cleansing, we have to think about how to decrease the external toxic load on our bodies. Intuitive nutrition (which I will describe in details in the dedicated chapter), as well as healthy life style (without cigarette smoking, alcohol excess, and with elimination of synthetic, unnatural products and medications) will ensure the conditions when your body is getting minimum of toxic products from the outside. In combination with periodic colonic cleansing sessions and regular exercise program it will create a reasonable balance between toxic load and facilitated toxin elimination, improving overall balance and creating a perfect, healthy body balance.

In Russia many people, including my mom, use complex body cleansing programs, including cleansing of the digestive tract, liver, kidneys, joints, blood vessels, and skin. All cleansing methods use natural products and rendered “safe”. I would not advocate such complex programs here, in the United States, as their safety was not studied in randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled studies. Remedies and techniques used for the complex body cleansing across the ocean may not be suitable for the western cultures, and are not scientifically proved to have any benefits. We are oriented to the traditional medical system, and may not be brave or curious enough to try some of the extreme cleansing methods other cultures developed. Non-traditional complex body cleansing programs are so popular in Russia that many books are written and published on them. I believe that people who tried some of them feel terrific afterwards and want to repeat cleansing procedures many more times. But no matter what they say, I just feel skeptical when it comes to recommendations like drinking for example 1.5 gallons of salty water or two glasses of olive oil in rapid sequence, or ingesting a cup-full of white clay. I just can’t imagine myself or any of my American readers doing that.

Just for the sake of curiosity, I read a couple of books on full body cleansing programs, published in Russia. I would like to give you an example of the liver cleansing program developed by Nina Shabalina (sadly, I have no idea who she is, and I could not find any information about this author’s qualifications or credentials!). Let’s assume she knows what she is talking about, because she is a popular author in Russia, she published eight books in Russian language, all of them are selling in stores and online, including books on body cleansing, menopause, enhancing immunity, fighting fatigue and insomnia – all by natural methods. Ready? Don’t be shocked and don’t try this at home!

Liver cleansing (Shabalina’s method). 6 cleansings per year. Ingredients needed: 200cc of freshly squeezed lemon juice, 200cc olive oil, white clay (for your information, white clay is used in cosmetics industry to make powders and masks. It is also used in alternative medicine for internal cleansing and balancing intestinal flora. In this case one spoon of clay is usually mixed with a glass of water and ingested). Shabalina recommends to start the whole procedure with a colonic enema (from 5PM till 6PM), followed by warming up in a bathtub or in banya (traditional Russian steam sauna) from 6PM till 7 PM. At 7 PM one has to swallow olive oil (3 Tbsp first), immediately followed by 3 Tbsp of lemon juice (apparently, to suppress nausea!). After this one has to eat white clay (she does not say how much and whether it should be mixed with water!). Then it’s recommended that the patient immediately assumes supine position (flat on the back) with a heated pad applied over the liver (she does not explain where the liver is located). Rest for 15 minutes. After that repeat all the steps (except enema) 6-8 times. Finish around 9PM. Rest in horizontal position on the back till 10PM. At 10PM one has to perform a cleansing enema (she does not say how). Shabalina recommends that one repeats all cycles with one hour breaks in between until 7AM the next morning (just imagine, instead of sleeping you swallow cups of olive oil and lemon juice, eat jars of white clay, and do enema after enema!). Author warns against early vomiting, which has to be prevented by the patient at all costs (by taking deep breath and holding it, and by bringing the knees towards the chest). Author “allows” patients to vomit after 1-1.5 hours into the procedure, if the nausea is intractable. Appetizing, right? She also states that in case of chills, weakness, headache, cold sweats (wonderful, I already feel very healthy!) one has to perform several enemas. Well, in my opinion, let Shabalina herself proceed with this torture, and we are not going to try.

In all the seriousness, I only recommend that we do periodic colonic cleansing. When done right, it eliminates toxic waste from the digestive tract, improves regularity, enhances absorption of good nutrients, clears the skin, and helps to lose weight. With a sluggish, toxic digestive system, metabolism slows down, the energy level drops and we’re simply not strong enough to start burning off stored fat through exercise or other means. An internal cleansing program can help restore balance in the body and increase the metabolism, reactivating the body’s fat-burning mechanism. Plus, after a thorough detoxification program, you’ll find yourself much more inclined to make healthier dietary and lifestyle choices. Through a detoxified system, improved digestion, balanced metabolism and a healthier diet you will have no trouble maintaining a healthy weight.

There is a common consensus among natural medicine specialists: internal cleansing must start with the colon, because if this region is kept unclean, it will contaminate every other part of the system. The importance of internal cleansing can best be summed up in the words of Dr. Paul Bragg, one of the “fathers” of natural medicine in the U.S. and the author of dozens of highly successful health books: “The secret to great health can be described in three words: Cleanse Your Body! Engrave these three words permanently in your memory.”

Three main reasons why you should clean your colon before going on a diet to lose weight are discussed below.

1. When waste and other fecal matter is stuck to the walls of your colon, you will generally feel fatigued and tired most of the time. Most people are unaware of this, but there is a direct relation between fatigue and fatigue related ailments like back pains and headaches to a clogged colon. If you are already feeling fatigued, then you will definitely experience problems in following a dieting plan and will not be able to stick to it till the end. On the other hand, a colon cleanse program will make you feel more energy, vitality and endurance, thus helping you follow your weight loss program.

2. Cleaning your colon will directly affect your digestion, making it faster and more efficient. When the colon is lined with mucous plaque and solid waste, your whole digestive and waste removal system slows down. While this does affect bowel movement at times, unknown to us, the absorption of toxins and wastes into the bloodstream becomes an almost continuous process. There is a breeding of bacteria and parasites in the colon as well, which causes abdominal pains, flatulence, constipation and other problems in the gastro intestinal system. A colon cleanse on the other hand will clean your colon and get your digestive system back on track, which will make it possible for you to follow your dieting regimen till the end without facing any stomach related problems.

3. After cleansing your colon, you will experience an increase in both endurance as well as energy while exercising. This will help you in achieving the exercise and workout related goals of your fitness program, thus helping you lose weight faster and better.

Some people think that colon cleansing can only occur at a doctor's office, or using only expensive medical equipment. On the contrary, you can pull off an extremely effective cleansing of your colon in the comfort of your home. There are several ways you can do this, ranging from a simple adjustment of your diet to full procedures that you can do on your own. By investigating all of the options, you will be able to find one that you are comfortable with.
